10 Ways to Improve Indoor Air Quality

freshair_surround_mainimage

1. Do not allow anyone to smoke inside of your home at anytime.

2. Measure the indoor humidity with a digital humidity and temperature monitor to keep it below 50 percent. Do not use any type vaporizer or humidifier; you may need a dehumidifier. Always use vent fans in bathrooms, and allow them to run for at least 30-minutes after bathroom  and shower usage.  Also, use vent fans when cooking to remove moisture.  Promptly repair all water leaks.

3. Wear a N95 particulate mask (Centers for Disease Control (CDC) NIOSH rated) when vacuuming or sweeping to reduce your exposure to fine particulates and allergens.

4. Do not use carpet in the bedroom. Use a central vacuum or a vacuum with a HEPA filter regularly. Keep it mind that it takes over two hours for dust to settle back down. If you’re not filtering it mechanically, then your nose is filtering it.

5. Keep pets out of the bedroom at all times. Use a room size Air Cleaner in the bedroom with an adequate CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) for the size of the room.

6. Encase mattresses and pillows with “mite-proof” covers. Wash all bed linens weekly.

7. Install a MERV 11 or 12 disposable high-efficiency media filter in the furnace and air-conditioning system. Change the filter every one to three months (with the change of the seasons) to keep the air cleaner year-round.

8. Install a high-quality air purification system in your home. Find a “whole-home” system. Leave a fan on to remove particles that may trigger allergies and asthma.

9. Have your heating and air-conditioning units inspected and serviced every six months.

10. Vent gas appliances and fireplaces to the outside and maintain them regularly.

Fibromyalgia and Alternative Treatments

Fibromyalgia and Alternative Treatments

Today I want to discuss a topic that many of my close friends call major pain…fibromyalgia.  Fibromyalgia is a neurosensory disorder characterized by widespread muscle pain, joint stiffness, and fatigue. The condition is chronic (ongoing), but pain comes and goes and moves about the body. The disorder is often misdiagnosed or unrecognized and is and often complicated by mood and anxiety disorders.

According to the American College of Rheumatology diagnosis criteria,

Cover of "The pH Miracle: Balance Your Di...

Cover via Amazon

fibromyalgia affects about 3-5% of women, most of whom are between ages 20 and 50, but only 0.5- 1.6% of men. Some experts feel the actual rate is much higher. Fibromyalgia is more prevalent in adults than children, with nine times more women affected than men. People with fibromyalgia are most likely to complain of three primary symptoms: muscle and joint pain, stiffness, and fatigue.

There is no known cure for fibromyalgia; therefore, the goal of treatment is successful symptom management. Treatment usually requires a combination of pharmaceutical therapies, appropriate exercise, proper sleep hygiene, and good nutrition. As of early 2009, the only drug specifically approved for treatment of fibromyalgia by the United States Food and Drug Administration was pregabalin (Lyrica), an anticonvulsant whose mechanism of action in the treatment of fibromyalgia was not completely understood.

Antidepressant drugs that alter the levels of neurotransmitters in the brain help improve symptoms of pain and disrupted sleep in many people with fibromyalgia.

Our bodies are meant to be alkaline, and our highly acidic diets put enormous stress on our systems.  When you eat foods that create acid in your body, most of the toxic waste is eliminated from your body by the bladder and bowels, and some is eliminated by breathing and through the skin.  However, some of the waste is stored in protective fat cells, and some is absorbed into the blood stream and carried throughout your body.

The key to dealing with almost any disease, and especially fibromyalgia, is to eat an alkaline diet and drink alkaline ionized water.  While converting to an alkaline diet is often a struggle, drinking ionized water is simple and very effective.   That doesn’t mean you can drink alkaline ionized water and continue to fill your body with acidic foods. While I don’t have fibromyalgia, I do have gout, and I found that starting with the water allowed me to experience the benefits of being alkaline, which encouraged me to slowly convert to a more alkaline diet as the benefits became more and more obvious.

I talk with people frequently who have struggled with fibromyalgia for many years.  Several have found that they can experience almost total relief from fibromyalgia on an ongoing basis simply by drinking alkaline water and being more mindful of their diet. Nothing works for everyone, but I have talked with too many fibromyalgia sufferers who have found relief by drinking the water to simply discount it as “hocus pocus”

Secondly, eating a diet high in vegetables and fruits (preferably organic), and lower in meats and grains is another established approach to alkalizing the diet; however, most people don’t do this on a regular basis.  NSA Certified supplements are a great source for those who do not get their daily intake of fruits and vegetables. Robert Young, Ph.D., author of The pH Miracle, reports that drinking alkaline water “neutralizes stored acid wastes and gently removes acids from the body”.

Lastly, deep breathing and relaxation breathing exercises for stress management can dramatically alter the body’s acid/alkaline balance by oxygenating and eliminating carbon dioxide and aerosol wastes. However, breathing exercises won’t be much help if you’re breathing polluted air. Cleaning up your indoor air quality by using a world-class air purification system can reduce pollutants of all kinds including acid producing components and provide a better environment for deep breathing. Cracking windows for ventilation can sometimes be a superior air cleaner as recent studies have shown that outdoor air is many times cleaner than indoor air. More involved programs of acid/alkaline balancing should be done in conjunction with a knowledgeable health care provider. If you would like to research this topic further, there are many popular books available on acid/alkaline balance and diet. The pH Miracle by Robert O. Young, Ph.D., and Shelley Redford Young; and Alkalize or Die by Theodore Baroody, M.D. are two respected resources.

Fibromyalgia is a complex disorder in which many factors play a part. Acid/alkaline balance is not a “magic bullet” by any means. However, many people can experience significant benefits by taking a good look at their overall acid/alkaline picture and by making sometimes very simple changes to diet, lifestyle, self-care, and home environment.

How Important is Hydration?

A six-year study published in the May 1, 2002 American Journal of Epidemiology found that those who drink more than 5 glasses of water a day were 41% less likely to die from a heart attack during the study period than those who drank less than two glasses.

Drinking the equivalent of 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45% and drinking ½ your body weight in water per day decreases the risk of breast cancer by 79%

I think the reason why we often don’t give enough importance to hydration is that it is so simple. It is hard for our brain to connect such a profound effect with something as simple as drinking a proper amount of water each day.

So I am not going to argue the point too much – I think 99% of you will agree that drinking enough water on a daily basis is absolutely a good thing. So let’s get into the good stuff: how you can start to directly change the quality of your life with water!

The benefits of hydration

Drinking ½ your body weight in ounces of quality water per day will transform your health and dramatically improve the way you think and feel.

These are the Top 5 Benefits to staying hydrated!

1. Energy! As mentioned above, when we are dehydrated by just 5% most of us will experience a 25-30% loss of energy. And to be honest, I estimate that 90% of us are more than 5% dehydrated.  When was the last time you truly drank enough water during the day?  And when you did, how good did you feel?!

When we are dehydrated we get headaches, foggy thinking, fatigue in our mind and our body, mood swings, we overeat, our metabolism grinds to a halt, we underachieve and we lose motivation.

Water is needed for almost every body metabolic function – it is simply vital that we stay hydrated. When we are dehydrated our body just cannot do it’s job and our energy and mental state will suffer as a result.

Fatigue is a hydration problem. If you’re feeling tired drink several glasses of water over the next 90 minutes and see how you feel then!

2.  Weight Loss! Our brain literally does not distinguish between the sensations of thirst and hunger. Both are derived from the same place – low energy levels (linking it to point 1, above). When we experience these low energy levels the sensations of thirst and hunger are generated at the same time, and we instinctively assume that regardless of the driver, both of these sensations are ‘the need to eat’. In other words we eat food even when the body needs water.

By staying hydrated we separate these two messages and often eat a lot less – the right amount.

3. Clear Skin! When you start to stay hydrated and consume ½ your body weight in ounces of water per day you will also begin to notice some dramatic changes to your skin.

Problems such as acne, dryness, eczema, psoriasis and more will start to disappear. Why?  When dehydrated, the body preserves the water supply to critical organs, such as the brain and the heart, but “cuts off water” to peripheral organs such as skin.

Being hydrated also ensures that your body’s cells are able to function effectively, for nutrient absorption, blood building and circulating and to help the body remove toxins.

4. Alkalinity & pH Balance! When you drink clean, filtered water with a pH of at least 8.5+ you will notice that you begin to feel a surge of health, energy and vitality. Our body is designed to be alkaline,

maintaining a pH level of approximately 7.365 in our cells, particularly the blood.

When we eat and drink too many acid-forming foods and drinks such as colas, sugars, breads, sweets, pizza, chips, alcohol, white rice & pasta, trans-fats, fast food, refined food, sauces & condiments, dairy, meats and more we put our body under an incredible strain to maintain this pH balance at 7.365.

By hydrating our body with high pH water we help maintain this alkalinity, flush toxins & acids from the body (such as yeasts/candida and bacteria growths) and our energy and vitality will go through the roof!

Being over-weight is also an acid problem, so when you start to hydrate & alkalize you will also start to see the weight fall away. Seriously, just by drinking ½ your body weight in ounces of alkaline water per day you will begin to see huge improvements with your weight.

5. Anti-Aging! The cause of premature aging is an over acid, dehydrated body. Aging occurs when we do not dispose of the internally generated wastes and toxins in our body. This is the process of getting old.

Because this accumulation of waste products inside the body is the aging process, supporting the body to remove these old, acid wastes is the anti aging process.

Antioxidants are often referred to as a way to prevent anti-aging because they help to detoxify the body from these wastes – and so drinking alkaline, antioxidant-rich water is a fantastic way to slow and reverse the aging process.

When we are hydrated, our cells function optimally, our digestive system works wonderfully and we can remove these aging toxins easily!

14 QUESTIONS YOU SHOULD ASK YOURSELF ABOUT YOUR JOB

Your Work Is Important.

Me and Hollywood movie producer, and fellow Vollarian, Glenn Greene

Happiness depends on feeling good about yourself. It is based on your relationships and achievements. When your gifts and abilities are developed and utilized through your life’s work, you grow in confidence and strength.

If you are unhappy at work, it will affect your family life, even your health. Take time to plan your career and life’s work.

Your work is a gift from God. “…to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God,” (Ecclesiastes 5:19).  “The Lord shall make thee plenteous in goods…and…bless all the work of thine hand,” (Deuteronomy 28:11 – 12).

God has given you your life’s work to bring you personal fulfillment. It is a vital key to your self-esteem and significance. If you are investing forty miserable hours each week on a job you do not like, two hours of church on Sunday will not necessarily cure it.

1. Are You Really Happy With What You Are Presently Doing? Your personal excitement and enthusiasm about your productivity each day is important. Nobody can answer this but You.

2. Is Your Present Job Actually A Short-Range or Long-Range Goal? For instance, high school or college students may not intend to work their entire lifetime at fast food restaurants. So their “after school” job is a short-range goal. They are gaining education, experience and basic financial provision.

Likewise, you should clarify in your own Mind the real reasons why you have chosen to work where you are presently working or where you desire to work.

3. Are Your God-Given Gifts And Strongest Talents Being Developed?  Prosperity and promotion usually come to those who totally focus on their most significant skills.

4. Are You Working Just To Pay Your Bills And Have Fun or To Truly Express A Contribution To Life And To This Work? Prominent achievers go the extra mile.

5. Do You Feel That God Is Satisfied With What You Are Doing Now?  I remember one tremendous guitarist who left a nightclub band after honestly answering this question. Though he loved his music, he felt God did not want him sowing his talents in such an environment.

6. Do You Feel That You Are Doing The Highest Quality of Work That You Are Capable of Doing?  Millions cultivate the habit of mediocrity in their daily duties. If you are not striving for total excellence, you have either the wrong job or the wrong attitude.

7. Do You Feel Like You Are Working “As Unto The Lord?” You must see the work you do for your boss as work you are doing for God. If not, you will soon resent your boss and the time you spend on his work.  This attitude will eventually cause you to feel unfulfilled and unproductive.

Seriously consider the above questions. Then, ask The Lord for his instructions regarding your career.

8. How Much Income Do You Personally Feel That You Need To Consider Yourself Financially Successful?  Each of us have different needs. Some have 5×7 dreams. Others have 16×20 dreams. Neither is right or wrong. The key is to establish a true picture of your personal desires.

9. What Kind of Problems Do You Really Love To Solve?  You can determine this by your favorite topic of conversation, favorite books and magazines that you enjoy? What would you enjoy talking about the most? Those things reveal your true interests.

10. What Kind of Environment Do You Find Most Enjoyable? Some people discover that they need many people around them to be most productive. Others prefer solitude.

11. What Are Your Social Needs? If your job deprives you of important relationships, it will become a source of discomfort and depression. You must diagnose the personal leisure and social needs that your happiness requires.

12. What Kind of Family Life or Time Do You Feel Is Necessary?  Obviously, a bachelor schedules his life differently from a family man with five children or a divorced mother of an infant. The job that is right for you should provide adequate time for sharing with those you love.

13. What Level of Social Approval And Respect Do You Need? Each of us wants to be accepted by our friends. Never work for a company of which you are ashamed.  One man admitted to me that he had no confidence in the products he was promoting. Consequently, he experienced very little success. He left that job and went to work with a company he could honestly support.  It made all the difference in his happiness.

14. What Kind of Financial Future Is Necessary For Your Peace of Mind? While very few jobs offer a lifetime guarantee, every one of us needs a sense of predictable income. Tomorrow does come. You must find where God wants you to be and what He wants you to be doing, and move as quickly as possible in that direction. Paul wrote, “With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men,” (Ephesians 6:7).

The article above was written by Dr. Mike Murdock, a dear friend and mentor to me. It was taken from The Wisdom Papers of Mike Murdock WPMM#36. For more information on Dr. Murdock’s ministry, visit him online at http://www.WisdomOnline.com

When I received this information from Dr. Murdock, I was personally going through a time in my life where I had just made a major career change.  I had been in the financial services industry for many years, and had, quite honestly, become very successul. I had worked my way up to earning a mid six-figure annual income; however, God decided it was time for me to move in another direction. I thought I was happy. I had all the things in life that make one appear to be happy…nice homes, expensive luxury cars, exotic vacations…yet, I was miserable inside and didn’t know it. I was also lost and undone…I was living a lie…I thought I had a relationship with Jesus; however, I had an empty, selfish life. On December 11, 2008, I personally accepted Jesus Christ as my very own Personal Savior and now I know what that relationship truly means. Life hasn’t been all perfect since that day. Actually, it has gotten harder! I now know what things in life are important to me. God…family…true friends. You see, money buys people, but not friends!

I have a very varied career past…I have worked in the real estate industry, law enforcement, been the owner and/or co-owner of several business ventures….even worked professionally in the music entertainment industry. I had played with the Network Marketing industry previously; but, I had never made any serious money….that is until I got involved with a healthy-living technology company in 2006.  My wife, Joyce and I, started seeing checks of over $5,000 each month within five months.

When I made my career change in 2008 out of the financial services industry, I prayed hard and long about which direction God wanted me to move toward. It was about this time that Dr. Murdock sent me the article quoted above.  God showed me clearly the things I enjoy doing. I enjoy working and being around people…the one’s I choose to be around and the one’s God chooses to send into my path. I enjoy having time freedom. I enjoy being able to spend as much time with my wife as I possibly can. I enjoy being able to spend tons of time with my two beautiful granddaughters…and I like being able to take trips and vacations whenever I choose. I also like having the ability to earn as much money as I want to earn! The great thing about my network marketing career is the fact that I can work from anywhere in the world. As long as I have my iPhone, I’m in business.

Network marketing isn’t for everyone. Contrary to what many think, I don’t want  all my friends and family members in my business. I only want those people who are fed-up with making someone else rich….working when someone else tells them to work…being off when someone else tells them to be off. I want the individual that is career-disturbed, tired of the rat-race of corporate America, tired of being under-paid, under-appreciated, and over-worked!

Is this you? If so, I have a very good website…actually, it is a great webiste. Spend some time on my site, and if you want to talk, complete the information form on the site, and I’ll contact you. No obligation, whatsoever.

The site is right here.

There is one thing for sure, my company, Vollara, is rocketing to the moon…come fly with us!

WE SAW THE MOVIE “CONTAGION” LAST NIGHT

Marion Cotillard during the Paris premiere of ...

Image via Wikipedia

Contagion’ may soon be spreading more than the joy of entertainment at the box office. The premise of the movie seems to have brought reality a little too close to home for the actors and staff, including director Steven Soderbergh, screenwriter Scott Burns, and actor Matt Damon.

“The real-life education began with Burns’ intensive research for the script, which involved working with world health experts,” stated USA Today in their article titled ‘Contagion’ created a crew of germaphobes. “Actress Marion Cotillard was the most affected with her germ education. She concedes that she has always been careful pathogen-wise, bringing her own germ-killing spray to hotel rooms. But after long conversations with Soderbergh, she stepped up her game. Now Cotillard cleans every doorknob in the hotel room and the TV remote control.” The article then goes on to say “Her germ mind-set only got worse when she watched Contagion with studio executives,” a statement that seems to underscore the potential effect the movie may have on actual audiences.

Hollywood’s latest fright aside, being concerned about the issue of airborne and surface contaminants is nothing new at Vollara. For years, we have been involved in researching and developing air and surface environmental technologies designed to help combat and control certain common household contaminants. The potential effectiveness of our active technology on surfaces has been tested for us by Dr. James Marsden at Kansas State University, and separately for airborne particulate at the University of Cincinnati.

And while the work we’re doing at Vollara may not have the dramatic flare of a box office hit or the drama of trying to cure a worldwide contagion, we feel it’s very important for average people to have a healthy living space, without unnecessary chemicals or being afraid of the doorknob.

So if you own an active air purifier from Vollara, enjoy ‘Contagion’ knowing you have the power of active, Certified Space technology working for you while you’re out, and after you get back. If you don’t own one, and you would like more information about our technology, contact me via my website

Do You Have Formaldehyde in Your Home and Office?

FreshAir Surround by Vollara

(NaturalNews) Formaldehyde is present in relatively benign quantities in nature; however its presence in manufactured goods is a major health concern because according to a significant body of research, it is a known carcinogenic substance.

Recently the U.S Department of Health and Human Services released a report on newly designated carcinogens that included formaldehyde. The report went on to suggest that people in certain industries were especially vulnerable to the effects of exposure such as those workers who worked in nail salons, in the funeral industry, and in industries which use formaldehyde to produce common household items including home furnishings, cleansers and personal care products. People who are exposed to concentrated levels of formaldehyde are more likely to develop certain cancers such as nasopharyngeal cancer and myeloid leukemia.

While some effort has been made to limit the quantities of formaldehyde used in manufacturing, such as restrictions recently placed by the US in The Formaldehyde Standards for Composite Wood Products Act, this toxic chemical remains a significant health risk especially in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time.

Formaldehyde is classified as a volatile organic compound or VOA. This term is used to describe compounds that are under significant vapor pressure and are easily expelled into the air. Because formaldehyde is readily vaporized can be a serious indoor pollutant.

Products which may contain formaldehyde include:

* Wood composite furniture including; resins used for office furniture, couches, baby furniture, particle board, pressed board, plywood, and softwood.

* Building materials such as acoustical ceilings, mineral wool, decking, composite core doors, industrial glues, foam insulation, paints and paint thinners.

* Household cleansers such as floor polishes, scouring cleansers, disinfectants, liquid cleansers, laundry aids, air fresheners, carpet cleaners.

* Household items such as wall hangings, carpets or throw rugs, coating on paper products, textiles, plastics, and upholstery.

* Personal care products such as hair straightening products, hair rinses, and cosmetics such as nail polish and hair gel often contain formaldehyde. Baby products including shampoos, creams and bubble bath are frequently laced with formaldehyde. Toothpaste and body washes are also potential sources of this carcinogenic ingredient.

* Clothing that is designated wrinkle free or preshrunk frequently contains formaldehyde. It has also been found in baby clothes and bedding.

* Formaldehyde is also a key component in the familiar new car smell of recently purchased vehicles.

* Car exhaust and cigarette smoke also contain formaldehyde.

* Formaldehyde is used as a disinfectant in laboratory settings, and is also used in the embalming process.

There are ways to reduce exposure to formaldehyde including buying products that are formaldehyde free. Another important way to reduce exposure is to be certain to properly ventilate the house. Here are some other suggests to reduce formaldehyde exposure:

1. Frequently air out the house. Formaldehyde concentrations in the home may also lead to allergic reactions may contribute to asthma attacks and contribute to other respiratory problems, rashes, irritation to mucus membranes, and fatigue. Children may be especially vulnerable.

2. Formaldehyde may be more readily released into the air in hot and humid spaces. Keep the area cool and dry in summer weather if possible.

3. Pressed wood products or composite wood frequently contains resins made with formaldehyde. Avoid purchasing these products or look for products that are listed as containing no formaldehyde or low formaldehyde. One example of a product labeled for reduced formaldehyde content would be a C.A.R.B phase 1 or 2 compliant product which is The California Air Resource Board endorsement. California has long recognized the carcinogenic properties of formaldehyde.

4. Wash all new clothing before wearing it. Clothing manufacturers in the U.S and some other countries are not required to label materials containing formaldehyde though many of their products do.

5. Do not allow smoking in the home. Smoke from cigarettes is a leading cause of formaldehyde exposure and indoor pollution.

6. When refinishing or sanding an old piece of furniture or woodwork wear a mask and use adequate ventilation. Sawdust from these items may contain high levels of formaldehyde.

7. Combinations of cleansers can be deadly so don’t mix them. Use proper ventilation when using ordinary household cleansers. Although many of them smell fresh and clean they are chemical cocktails that frequently contain formaldehyde.

8. Use low-VOC or no-VOC paints.

9. Buy only personal care and baby care items that are formaldehyde free. Be especially diligent with nail polishes, hair straightening products as both of these items may contain dangerous levels of formaldehyde.

The recent addition of formaldehyde to the list of known cancer causing agents may lead to tougher laws regulating its use in consumer products and is a significant step to protecting the welfare of the public from this toxic substance. Until laws change however, it will be up to consumers to take steps to protect their home and families from formaldehyde.
